This photograph of Sam Finlay and Helen Smyth Finlay was probably taken around 1920 in North Ireland.

Sam Finlay was probably born in North Ireland. He had two sisters who never married ( Aggie - Agnes & Maggie - Margaret). He went to college at Trinity College in Dublin and became a school teacher and later on a headmaster of a school. He was an artist and could draw almost anything. He was a musician who led the orchestra. He was a country doctor who practiced medicine using what he had learned through experience. As he aged, he became portly and bald, but still very handsome. He had a great sense of humor and fast hands for doing magic tricks. He died of a heart attack in 1959 in Bangor, County Down, North Ireland.

Helen Smyth was born on April 17th 1892 in Govan, Glasgow, Scotland. She was warm and loving. She liked to laugh and tell jokes and could tickle three grandchildren with one hand held behind her back. She never wanted anyone to argue and if they did she acted as the peacemaker. When Sam died in 1959, she got rid of their belongings and flew to California to live with her daughter, Queenie Helen Finlay Feder. She lived with them until she began having strokes. She became senile ( probably Alzheimer's) and eventually died of a stroke.
